Tax Health Plan raised over £10 million

Last year, HMRC targeted Health Professional, such as doctors and dentists, who had not paid enough tax.  They have now revealed that this voluntary disclosure scheme raised over £10 million from over 1,500 disclosures, including a payment of over £1 million by an individual doctor!

HMRC's website has revealed they are expecting to raise yet more, after they combined the information from voluntary disclosures with other information, such as details of payments made by insurance companies, and their own records to identify those they believe should have used the Tax Health Plan but chose not to.

At the end of the scheme HMRC wrote to those they felt should have responded, and detailed the information they held on them, which led to promises to pay a further £1 million. This was pledged before civil investigations have been concluded, and criminal investigations are also currently under consideration.

This was the first of HMRC's targeted campaigns.  Earlier this year they launched the Plumbers Tax Safe Plan, where Plumbers and Trade's people had until 31st May 2011 to register to make a voluntary disclosure.

HMRC reports that £94,000 has already been collected, with a further £234,000 disclosed through the PTSP. So far, 600 people have stated their intention to declare unpaid tax, and over 500 civil cases, are being launched in July 2011.

Their next campaign is planned to focus on those who provide private tuition and coaching (PT&C), and is due to launch in Autumn 2011.
